Frequently asked
questions
Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between a video's width and height, expressed as W:H. Common ratios are 16:9 (widescreen), 9:16 (vertical/TikTok), 4:3 (old TV), and 1:1 (square/Instagram).
If you change dimensions without maintaining ratio, the video is stretched or squished (distorted). The correct approach is to either scale proportionally or add letterbox/pillarbox black bars to fill the new frame.
YouTube recommends 1920×1080 (1080p Full HD) or 3840×2160 (4K) at 16:9. Minimum is 640×480. Upload at the highest quality you have — YouTube re-encodes all uploads anyway.
