Eligible Investment Funds
While the child is a minor, investments are restricted to low-cost U.S. stock index ETFs. At launch the default is an S&P 500 ETF. Other broad-market U.S. index ETFs are expected to be approved.
Who Qualifies?
- Any U.S. child under 18 with a Social Security number
- The $1,000 government seed applies only to children born Jan 1, 2025 โ Dec 31, 2028
- Contributions from parents, grandparents, other family, employers, or eligible charities
What Happens at Age 18?
The 530A converts to a traditional IRA. The young adult can invest in a broader asset universe and contribute up to the IRA annual limit from earned income. Tax-deferred growth continues through retirement.
